An important part of the design process is Design Research. This involves analysing exiting designs and taking feedback on our new designs. This can be better understood with the help of an example. During the design of the groundnut thresher, 26 existing machines were inspected at different facilities. The potential customers and their requirements were noted and also the extent of their capabilities. This gave us a clear picture into how we must shape the new design to solve all their problems. This also gave us an insight into what potential the new design of the thresher should have keeping in mind present and future prospects. During this phase the present problems being faced were also understood. Similarly for designs in the home appliances sector, we ensure that we take an extensive feedback from prospective users. This gives the product an edge in the field of design for interaction.
