A Craft Cluster Workspace

  • Using solar energy
  • Energy efficient structural design
  • Low cost materials
  • Low maintenance
  • Provision for Wet area or Underground storage space
  • Step profile partition for exhibits, visibility and interaction
  • Follows the Gandhian ideal of identifying and using resources from within 5 kms of the space (the materials will change from region to region with the availability of resources).
  • Total output required :
  • 80w *12 = 960 watts/hr if plant works for 8 hours 960*8 = 7680w
  • Usage
  • 8w * 2*4 =64 watts/hour if used for 8 hours 64*8 = 512w
  • Potters wheel
  • 375w*4*4 if wheel runs continuously for 4 hours = 6512w
  • Other appliances 60 * 4 =240 if all appliance run for 4 hours 960w
  • Total power required = 7472w
  • Total power produced = 7680w
  • Investment Required (design option I)
  • Cost of each unit = Rs. 2.1 lac
  • (Building = Rs. 1.8 lacs, Solar Panels = Rs. 0.3 lacs, after subsidy)
  • Total Cost of 3 Units = Rs. 6.3 lacs
  • Cost of Shop Unit = Rs. 1.7 lacs
  • Total cost of CLUSTER = Rs. 8 lacs
  • (can be fully covered under MSME Cluster Scheme limit of Rs. 10 lacs)

 Design Interventions

  • Reintroducing craft in a modern context maintaining its traditional values.
  • Linking the craft cluster village to mainstream industry/ tourism companies/ creating export demands/ brand labels etc.

Introducing new tools/techniques to the artisans for increased variety of produce
